About the role
- Reports to VP of Packaging and Sustainability and works collaboratively with the Founder, Product Development and cross-functional teams
- Manage and support a packaging team with leadership responsibilities
- Provide feasibility analyses defining function, manufacturability, component cost, tooling estimates, development lead time, risk and global consistency
- Communicate and resolve timeline challenges and provide updates on project milestones
- Offer engineering technical support, expertise, and guidance to the Packaging team
- Proactively mitigate potential issues via risk assessments with PD, Operations, Quality and Regulatory
- Source stock and develop custom primary and secondary packaging and provide detailed briefs to suppliers
- Review and approve technical drawings, component submissions, BOM, and fill & assembly instructions
- Oversee artwork requests and review/approve files before releasing to vendors
- Manage all areas of package testing, perform in-house testing, and review/analyze test results
- Develop packaging testing protocols and associated cross-functional SOPs
- Work with contract fillers and production to ensure project feasibility and attend line trials as needed
- Identify creative and sustainable packaging, materials, decoration and technologies aligned to brand voice
- Liaise with Quality and Operations to determine root cause and resolutions
- Coordinate photo-ready, retailer, and internal meeting comps for NPD
- Attend tradeshows and supplier meetings to build and maintain partner relationships
- Project responsibilities include new development, resourcing, sampling, collateral, and related deliverables
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of package development experience
- BA/BS in Packaging Engineering, Business Administration, or equivalent
- Solid knowledge of the prestige/luxury beauty market and a passion for products, packaging and how they work together
- Understanding of packaging sustainability and global compliance
- Technical competency in analysis of geometric objects in 2 and 3 dimensions including understanding of clearances, fit and finish of packaging components and subcomponents
- Comprehensive knowledge of materials used in the construction and manufacturing of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging including knowledge of decorating techniques and materials used on primary, secondary and tertiary packaging
- Comprehensive knowledge of test methods used to validate component/package performance
- Exceptional project management experience
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and tasks with precision and detail
- Solid problem-solving skills, analytical skills and business acumen
- Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal skills
- Strong working knowledge of MS Suite products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and project management platforms
- Must be able to work from Corporate Office at least 60% of the time
