About the role
- Support the project team in the preparation, setup, and continuous improvement of the project Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) system.
- Participate in, review, and assist with the development of safety documentation, including Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Permit to Work, and PPSPS reviews.
- Act as the HSE focal point for the site, project, and management, and coordinate with all frontline managers on HSE matters.
- Ensure that leading and lagging indicators are collected and reported to support KPI reporting.
- Collaborate with stakeholders by establishing and maintaining close contact with Client and Subcontractor HSE representatives.
- Participate in the coordination of site activities to identify potentially hazardous Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPS) and ensure activities are planned and executed according to the approved Safe System of Work.
- Plan and deliver HSE campaigns, including Toolbox Talks (TBT), briefings, demonstrations, and drills.
- Provide guidance and advice on HSE matters to on-site personnel.
- Lead site incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective/preventive actions, ensuring all information is properly documented in the Company Incident Management System.
- Collect safety observations on site, analyze trends from incident and hazard data, and propose effective risk-reduction measures.
- Maintain a visible on-site presence by conducting regular focused inspections and engaging in safety conversations with personnel.
- Contribute actively to the HSE team by promoting Hitachi Energy HSE processes and engaging positively with site personnel.
Requirements
- Recognized qualification in HSE (e.g., NEBOSH or equivalent); Level 6 preferred.
- Extensive experience in a similar HSE role within projects of comparable size and complexity or other proven relevant experience.
- Fluent in English and French (spoken and written).
- Strong understanding of ISO 45001; Internal Auditor certification is an advantage.
- Formal training in Incident Investigation.
- Additional qualifications in areas such as environment, fire protection, or emergency response are desirable.
- Additional in-depth knowledge in areas such as scaffolding, confined spaces, lifting operations, hazardous substances, or electrical hazards is desirable.
