About the role

  • Own and oversee the accounting department, with direct responsibility for 7–10 accountants and managers, including the Controller.
  • Lead all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
  • Ensure full compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and other applicable requirements.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, delivering timely and accurate financial reporting for both internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls; lead audit preparations and manage relationships with external auditors.
  • Generate, review, and analyze financial statements, ensuring transparency and accuracy.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of accountants and managers to drive accountability and growth within the department.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and accuracy of accounting operations.
  • Collaborate with FP&A, Treasury, Operations, and Compliance teams to ensure alignment with organizational goals.

Requirements

  • Merchant and Payment Processing (Credit, Debit, ACH)
  • Banking platforms; ACH and wire activity (Wells Fargo, Mission Bank, Axos, JPM, First Republic)
  • Multiple entity accounting
  • External Audit Examinations as lead or manager
  • QuickBooks Online
  • Microsoft Excel; Pivot Tables and Reporting
  • SOC 1 and SOC 2 (Preferred)
  • Consumer Loans and Retail Installment Contracts

  • Recurring payment Management
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership/people management role.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience with audits, internal controls, and ERP/accounting systems.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
