About the role
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes across multiple legal entities
- Manage general ledger accounting activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Ensure accurate and timely consolidation of financial statements across health plan, medical, and ACO entities
- Review and approve complex accounting transactions, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
- Design and implement scalable accounting processes, policies, and procedures to support organizational growth
- Establish and maintain internal controls framework to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Develop and document standard operating procedures for accounting functions
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation to increase efficiency
- Apply technical accounting knowledge to healthcare and insurance industry-specific transactions
- Research and resolve complex accounting issues, including evaluation of new accounting standards
- Manage and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance on technical issues and professional development
- Partner with Controller on strategic accounting initiatives and financial planning
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including FP&A, operations, and clinical leadership
- Support external audit processes and coordinate with external auditors
- Oversee accounting systems and ERP platform utilization to optimize functionality
- Develop and enhance financial reporting packages for leadership and stakeholders
- Support implementation of new accounting systems or system upgrades as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in management roles
- Strong technical accounting knowledge with demonstrated application of GAAP principles
- Proven track record of building accounting processes and controls in growth-stage or startup environments
- Experience with financial statement consolidation and complex reconciliations
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and advanced Excel skills
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-financial stakeholders
- Self-starter who thrives with minimal supervision and can manage competing priorities independently
- Preferred: Healthcare payor, provider, or payvider accounting experience
- Big Four or public accounting experience
- Experience implementing or optimizing accounting systems in growing organizations
- Multi-entity accounting experience, preferably in healthcare, insurance, or related industries
- Advanced degree (MBA, MAcc) or additional certifications (CMA, CIA)
