Impact assessment of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and other federal and state energy policies
Manage and act as the principle technical solution delivery leader on projects related to electrical transmission system planning studies to determine transmission requirements, and generation additions & retirements
Familiarity with or ability to quickly grasp various transmission planning concepts, practices and procedures, and ability to identify the correct Transmission Planning reliability criteria to perform analysis
Oversee and at times perform power systems analysis including transmission planning feasibility studies, System Impact Studies and Generator Interconnection Studies
Demonstrated proficiency in performing Steady State, Dynamic Stability Simulation, Voltage Stability Simulation, and Short Circuit Analysis
Study thermal overloads and recommend mitigations / transmission upgrades
Oversee and develop / fine tune dynamic models for conventional and inverter-based resources (IBRs) and implement them for stability/transient simulation-based analysis
Mentor junior consultants in expanding their individual know-how and business acumen on energy markets, business development and client management skills.
Requirements
Due to the nature of client engagements applicants must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident.
Bachelor’s degree in electrical or power systems engineering AND SEVEN (7+) years post-graduation work experience within the Bulk Electric System;
Or Master’s degree in electrical or power systems engineering AND FIVE (5+) plus years post-graduation work experience within the Bulk Electric System;
Or PhD degree in electrical engineering or power systems engineering AND THREE (3+) plus years management consulting experience in the utilities industry focused on electrical transmission system planning studies to determine transmission requirements, and generation additions & retirements.
Post graduation work experience using one or more of the following power systems engineering tools: PSLF, POWERWORLD Simulator, PSSE, ASPEN, TARA, CAPE, DSA Tools, PSCAD or EMTP.
In-depth knowledge of transmission and distribution systems from a planning and operations standpoint.
Familiarity with and ability to quickly become adept at FERC, NERC, and state regulatory requirements and processes.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to travel.
Ability to work onsite in Guidehouse Office or Client Office location.
