About the role
- Support the development of test procedures and energy efficiency standards
- Evaluation, investigation, and analysis of new and emerging technologies for improving overall efficiency
- Hands-on product testing and evaluation at the appliance testing laboratory
- Physically disassembling complex products component‑by‑component (“down to every last screw”)
- Identifying, cataloging, and documenting all parts, subassemblies, and materials in a structured bill of materials
- Performing hands-on laboratory testing of residential and commercial appliances and equipment
- Contributing to the improvement and expansion of laboratory testing capabilities
- Synthesizing test data to reveal insights and draw conclusions to support client objectives
- Developing test methods to help characterize the energy use of various appliances
- Reviewing international test methods and procedures currently used by industry
- Providing detailed fact finding, research, and analysis on energy efficiency-related topics
- Assessing technologies and analyzing technology trends
- Modeling the performance of advanced technologies
- Performing statistical analyses; data collection; spreadsheet creation and management
- Preparing reports, presentations and other documents for clients
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or a similar discipline
- 1-3 years of directly related working experience
- Ability to travel as needed, including utilizing your own car to support the needs of the appliance testing laboratory
- Ability to constantly operate a computer and other office equipment to coordinate work
- Ability to regularly use close visual acuity and operate computer equipment to prepare, analyze and transmit data accordingly
- Ability to work in an office environment
- Ability to engage in hands-on laboratory testing of home appliances and similar types of equipment
- Ability to use tools typical of a mechanical laboratory or workshop environment
