About the role

  • Support the development of test procedures and energy efficiency standards
  • Evaluation, investigation, and analysis of new and emerging technologies for improving overall efficiency
  • Hands-on product testing and evaluation at the appliance testing laboratory
  • Physically disassembling complex products component‑by‑component (“down to every last screw”)
  • Identifying, cataloging, and documenting all parts, subassemblies, and materials in a structured bill of materials
  • Performing hands-on laboratory testing of residential and commercial appliances and equipment
  • Contributing to the improvement and expansion of laboratory testing capabilities
  • Synthesizing test data to reveal insights and draw conclusions to support client objectives
  • Developing test methods to help characterize the energy use of various appliances
  • Reviewing international test methods and procedures currently used by industry
  • Providing detailed fact finding, research, and analysis on energy efficiency-related topics
  • Assessing technologies and analyzing technology trends
  • Modeling the performance of advanced technologies
  • Performing statistical analyses; data collection; spreadsheet creation and management
  • Preparing reports, presentations and other documents for clients

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or a similar discipline
  • 1-3 years of directly related working experience
  • Ability to travel as needed, including utilizing your own car to support the needs of the appliance testing laboratory
  • Ability to constantly operate a computer and other office equipment to coordinate work
  • Ability to regularly use close visual acuity and operate computer equipment to prepare, analyze and transmit data accordingly
  • Ability to work in an office environment
  • Ability to engage in hands-on laboratory testing of home appliances and similar types of equipment
  • Ability to use tools typical of a mechanical laboratory or workshop environment
