About the role

  • The Director, Human Resources SME will have expertise in a variety of human resources functional areas - including HR strategy and governance, recruiting, compensation management, employee & labor relations, employee benefits administration, workforce administration, and learning/organizational development.
  • Develop and deliver high impact performance improvement and organizational change opportunities for hospitals and health systems to improve financial results and create a high performing HR model.
  • Participate in complex client performance improvement engagements as the HR Subject Matter Specialist on assessment and implementation projects.
  • Meets with clients to assess current state, identify and validate improvement opportunities, and determine appropriate recommendations and action steps to achieve improvement opportunities.
  • Must have mastery of workflows, KPIs, and delivery models for most human resources functional areas.
  • Provide and sell assessment and implementation project work.
  • Keeps client service partner informed of services being proposed.
  • May meet with client one-on-one, with the partner or manager, with a sales/marketing staff or as part of a client service team.
  • Confers with leadership and other professionals in offices served to gain insights on client backgrounds and determine potential needs in human resources area.
  • Initiates contact, follows up on requests, etc.
  • Prepares draft proposals and/or engagement letters for providing services in accordance with established standards and confers with their supervisor for input and approval for projects planned.
  • Meets with clients and conducts human resources consulting projects in one or more areas of specialization plus other human resource generalist projects.
  • Seeks assistance from other consultants with expertise in unfamiliar areas.
  • Prepares reports in accordance with established standards on consulting services performed for clients.
  • Delivers reports where appropriate and discusses results and recommendations with clients.
  • Provides on-going time and materials consulting services to established clients as needed and continually seeks business development opportunities.
  • Documents consulting activities according to firm standards and prepares administrative reports as requested.
  • Prepares and conducts seminars and workshops on human resources topics. Includes preparation of appropriate handout materials.
  • Works with business development sales and marketing staff and performance improvement consulting services team to determine what services are to be emphasized and how they should be marketed.
  • Participates in solution and sales development through thought leadership and industry trends.
  • Supports the development and alignment of HR solution materials and marketing collateral to guide and enhance the Guidehouse HR offering.
  • Completes client projects effectively and efficiently and maintains a high level of proficiency with available technology.
  • Completes semi-monthly time reporting according to office standards, assists in billing of time to clients as requested.
  • Attends appropriate professional meetings and conferences and reads publications to maintain and expand professional knowledge as a human resources consultant.
  • Attends and contributes to internal meetings as requested.
  • Becomes involved in appropriate community and professional activities for exposure to clients, potential clients, networking and other business development opportunities.
  • Meeting billing and collection goals for assigned clients.
  • Has the desire and drive to eventually become a performance advisor and mentor for assigned staff.

Requirements

  • Experience and proven results with Performance Improvement (hospitals and health systems preferred) - human resources / fringe benefits subject matter specialist.
  • Expertise and industry reputation in Human Resources and Benefits field.
  • Four year college degree in human resources management or related field of study, SPHR preferred.
  • 10+ years of highly successful experience in human resources, preferably with both specialization and generalist work activities.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Be a team player; demonstrate attention to detail and problem-solving skills; able to work independently.
