About the role

  • Install, configure, and support an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet system or a segment of a network system.
  • Maintain network hardware and software.
  • Monitor network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability.
  • Supervise other network support and client server specialists.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures.
  • Assist in creation and support of active directory and security policies.
  • Test and evaluate hardware and software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing system, and make purchase recommendations.
  • Design and implement systems, network configurations, and network architecture, including hardware and software technology, site locations, and integration of technologies.
  • Monitor system performance and provide security measures, troubleshooting and maintenance as needed.
  • Work with other engineers, systems analysts, programmers, technicians, scientists and top-level managers in the design, testing and evaluation of systems.
  • Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.
  • Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary.
  • Configure, monitor, and maintain email applications or virus protection software.
  • Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use.
  • Monitor network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Preferred 1-3 years of experience in a related field
  • Current Microsoft operating systems, setting up a subnet, Citrix & Terminal Services, Cisco Switches / Routers, current Microsoft Office
  • Understanding of NTFS & share level security
  • Understanding of backup software
  • Knowledge of current corporate storage solutions
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange
  • Knowledge of Desktop, Server, and Application Virtualization Systems
  • Knowledge of Active Directory
  • Knowledge of the OSI Model
  • Knowledge of current storage trends
  • Knowledge of Cisco access lists & port level security
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
