About the role

  • Prepares source data for entry into compliance software
  • Prepares basic to advanced motor fuel tax and related fee returns and reconciles related tax general ledger accounts
  • Makes inquiries of taxing authorities related to assigned jurisdictions
  • Interacts with customers and suppliers related to inquiries on invoices, including obtaining and or providing tax documentation, as required
  • Prepares memoranda based on assigned tax research projects
  • Designated trainer for assigned motor fuel taxes and fee portfolio
  • Assists with preparation of data for motor fuel tax and fee audits by taxing jurisdictions
  • Develops standard operating procedures for assigned motor fuel taxes and fee portfolio
  • Understands and adheres to tax internal controls for motor fuel taxes and fees
  • Continuously looks for ways to improve processes and business practices
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or commensurate experience
  • 3-5 years related experience.
  • Prior motor fuel experience preferred.
  • Effective team player able to work with others in various areas (operations, treasury, finance, etc.)
  • Knowledgeable about tax responsibility area
  • Displays strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Has above average attention to detail and high degree of speed/accuracy in data entry
  • Willingness and ability to work in fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize and complete tasks by deadline
  • Exercises sound judgment and adherence to department policy and procedures
  • Demonstrates process improvement mindset.
