About the role
- Prepares source data for entry into compliance software
- Prepares basic to advanced motor fuel tax and related fee returns and reconciles related tax general ledger accounts
- Makes inquiries of taxing authorities related to assigned jurisdictions
- Interacts with customers and suppliers related to inquiries on invoices, including obtaining and or providing tax documentation, as required
- Prepares memoranda based on assigned tax research projects
- Designated trainer for assigned motor fuel taxes and fee portfolio
- Assists with preparation of data for motor fuel tax and fee audits by taxing jurisdictions
- Develops standard operating procedures for assigned motor fuel taxes and fee portfolio
- Understands and adheres to tax internal controls for motor fuel taxes and fees
- Continuously looks for ways to improve processes and business practices
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or commensurate experience
- 3-5 years related experience.
- Prior motor fuel experience preferred.
- Effective team player able to work with others in various areas (operations, treasury, finance, etc.)
- Knowledgeable about tax responsibility area
- Displays strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Has above average attention to detail and high degree of speed/accuracy in data entry
- Willingness and ability to work in fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and deadlines
- Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize and complete tasks by deadline
- Exercises sound judgment and adherence to department policy and procedures
- Demonstrates process improvement mindset.
