About the role
- Design and implement electrical systems for data centers, including medium and low-voltage power distribution, backup power systems, and emergency systems
- Develop and maintain electrical schematics, bills of materials, and installation drawings
- Approves and signs off on work, acting as Engineer of Record
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations, including National Electric Code (NEC) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards
- Understanding of telecom and fire alarm design, including prescriptive, performance-based, and full detailed design approaches
- Collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to develop specifications, design criteria, and project budgets
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in electrical engineering and data center technologies, and recommend new technologies to improve the reliability and efficiency of our data center infrastructure
- Is accountable for project success in the electrical discipline.
- Travel to project sites for engineering surveys, data collection for system studies, audits, and client collaboration.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution
- Professional Engineering License is required.
- 7–10 years of professional experience in electrical design engineering, with a strong background in Gray’s core markets.
- Proven expertise in electrical systems design, including lighting, power distribution, grounding, lightning protection, telecommunications, and security systems.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical codes and standards, including NEC, NFPA, IBC, and client-specific requirements.
- Advanced proficiency in Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM coordination workflows, with experience leading model integration and clash detection.
- Advanced proficiency with electrical design tools (e.g., SKM Power Tools, ETAP, or similar).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills for system analysis, cost modeling, and performance optimization.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to lead client discussions, present technical concepts, and coordinate across disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to manage project deliverables, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to strategic planning and quality assurance.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to continuous improvement and professional development.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
