About the role

  • Lead and mentor a regional team responsible for delivering financial and recovery supports to disaster impacted communities.
  • Build strong relationships with municipalities and community partners to support local capacity and guide communities through their recovery process.
  • Oversee eligibility assessments for disaster financial assistance programs, ensuring accurate, timely decisions involving significant public funds.
  • Coordinate with Alberta Emergency Management Agency Field Officers to maintain situational awareness and provide clear program information during major events.
  • Support provincial emergency operations, including the Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre and Provincial Recovery Coordination Centre during activations.

Requirements

  • University degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration or related, PLUS 4 years related experience or equivalent as described
  • Experience leading teams in program delivery, community services, emergency management, or a related field.
  • Strong relationship building skills with the ability to work collaboratively with municipalities, Indigenous communities, and external partners.
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies, and program criteria to assess eligibility and make sound decisions.
  • Experience coordinating complex information during high pressure or rapidly evolving situations.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to explain programs, processes, and decisions to diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting to understand project finances.
  • Class 5 driver license or equivalent, and ability to provide a clear driver abstract.
  • Ability to travel with short notice for extended periods of time (i.e. be deployed to support an incident).
  • Must be able to work non-standard hours with short notice for extended periods of time (i.e. weekends, evenings, nights, holidays etc. at time of incident).
