About the role
- Supporting project scoping, consultant selection, and coordination for bridge construction and rehabilitation projects.
- Assisting with engineering design reviews and ensuring construction aligns with department standards and specifications.
- Conducting site inspections and monitoring progress to ensure safety, quality, and contract compliance.
- Helping resolve technical and stakeholder issues during construction to keep projects moving forward.
- Reviewing consultant submissions, permits, and design documents to ensure quality, value, and constructability.
- Tracking costs, schedules, and changes to ensure projects stay on time and within budget.
- Contributing to long-term bridge capital and maintenance planning.
- Collaborating with department staff, consultants, and stakeholders to align project outcomes with department goals.
- Gaining exposure to other sections - Infrastructure, Construction, and Operations - to develop a well-rounded understanding of regional transportation delivery.
Requirements
- University graduation in Engineering or Applied Science or Geology or Geophysics, or graduation from a recognized School of Architecture
- Eligible for Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) status with APEGA.
- A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
- One to two years of related experience in transportation or civil engineering (preferred).
- Basic knowledge of structural and/or hydrotechnical engineering principles (preferred).
- Understanding of roadway, bridge, and culvert design and construction practices (preferred).
- Experience working with consultants or contractors to resolve project issues, especially where negotiation was required (preferred).
- Familiarity with engineering software used for structural design and drafting (preferred).
