About the role

  • Supporting project scoping, consultant selection, and coordination for bridge construction and rehabilitation projects.
  • Assisting with engineering design reviews and ensuring construction aligns with department standards and specifications.
  • Conducting site inspections and monitoring progress to ensure safety, quality, and contract compliance.
  • Helping resolve technical and stakeholder issues during construction to keep projects moving forward.
  • Reviewing consultant submissions, permits, and design documents to ensure quality, value, and constructability.
  • Tracking costs, schedules, and changes to ensure projects stay on time and within budget.
  • Contributing to long-term bridge capital and maintenance planning.
  • Collaborating with department staff, consultants, and stakeholders to align project outcomes with department goals.
  • Gaining exposure to other sections - Infrastructure, Construction, and Operations - to develop a well-rounded understanding of regional transportation delivery.

Requirements

  • University graduation in Engineering or Applied Science or Geology or Geophysics, or graduation from a recognized School of Architecture
  • Eligible for Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) status with APEGA.
  • A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
  • One to two years of related experience in transportation or civil engineering (preferred).
  • Basic knowledge of structural and/or hydrotechnical engineering principles (preferred).
  • Understanding of roadway, bridge, and culvert design and construction practices (preferred).
  • Experience working with consultants or contractors to resolve project issues, especially where negotiation was required (preferred).
  • Familiarity with engineering software used for structural design and drafting (preferred).
