About the role
- EHS leadership & operational EHS management
- Operational EHS support for multiple smaller projects in the region (including installation, rehabilitation, construction and EPC projects)
- Support regional management in implementing, monitoring and continuously improving the EHS management system in accordance with GE Vernova requirements and relevant standards
- Conduct and facilitate risk and hazard assessments; derive, track and verify the effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions
- Plan and carry out EHS audits, inspections and site walks; track findings and support timely closure of actions
- Support integration of "Design for EHS" into projects (e.g., technical protective measures, safe work procedures, layout and access concepts)
- EHS reporting, event management & learning from incidents
- Perform EHS reporting in accordance with GE Vernova processes and deadlines (KPIs, dashboards, monthly/quarterly reports)
- Ensure complete and timely recording, classification and escalation of accidents, near misses and unsafe conditions in designated EHS systems
- Lead or support incident and accident investigations including root cause analysis; define effective immediate, corrective and preventive actions
- Follow up on action implementation and effectiveness; prepare and distribute lessons learned and best practices across projects, sites and teams
- Serve as the appointed occupational safety specialist under the German Occupational Safety Act (ASiG) and DGUV regulations
- Provide professional advice to management, leaders and employees on all occupational health and safety matters
- Coordinate internal and external occupational safety specialists (where present) and ensure compliance with GE Vernova guidelines and local legal requirements
- Support organization of first aid, fire protection and emergency management including drills and training
- Prepare, review and implement operating instructions, safety briefings and emergency plans
- Primary EHS contact for the Berlin and Dresden sites
- Plan, deliver and coordinate EHS trainings, briefings, toolbox talks and safety campaigns
- Organize and participate in safety committee meetings (ASA), safety walks and EHS meetings
- Support local leaders in implementing EHS programs, initiatives and continuous improvement measures
- Provide EHS support in the Inquiry-to-Order (ITO) phase for tenders, proposals and contracts in close coordination with commercial, sales and project teams
- Identify EHS risks, obligations and cost drivers during bid preparation; participate in risk reviews and approval processes
- Ensure customer requirements, legal obligations and internal EHS standards are clearly reflected in proposals, scopes of work and contract documents
- Help shape realistic and compliant EHS commitments and ensure structured handover to execution teams
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with project management, site management, HR, works council, clients, contractors and authorities
- Prepare and deliver EHS communications, presentations and trainings in German and English
- Actively promote a proactive safety culture, visible safety leadership and open reporting of hazards and near misses
- Support continuous improvement and simplification of EHS processes in line with GE Vernova values (Safety, Integrity, Inclusion, Customer Focus)
Requirements
- Degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety or similar, or a completed technical vocational qualification with extensive relevant professional experience in the EHS field
- Recognized qualification as an Occupational Safety Specialist under German law (DGUV)
- Several years of experience in EHS, ideally in the context of construction, installation or industrial projects
- Excellent knowledge of German occupational health & safety and environmental legislation; knowledge of EHS frameworks in other German-speaking countries is an advantage
- Business‑fluent German, written and spoken
- Very good command of English, written and spoken, including preparation of documentation, reporting and training materials
- Proficient with MS Office; experience with EHS management systems and digital EHS tools is an advantage
- Strong communication and advisory skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
- Structured, pragmatic and solution-oriented working style with strong execution capabilities
- High personal responsibility, integrity and resilience
- Ability to work independently while effectively operating within an international team environment
- Willingness to travel regularly within the region (focus Germany, especially Berlin and Dresden)
