About the role

  • Conduct product safety reviews and risk assessments for new beauty, accessory, toys, and footwear products during concept and adoption stages, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and Gap Inc. safety standards.
  • Document issues found and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Communicate risks and recommendations clearly, leading or participating in cross-functional meetings, and delivering written and verbal updates to drive alignment and compliance.
  • Support regulatory strategy by monitoring global regulatory changes, conducting market research, and translating insights into policy updates.
  • Manage the beauty (cosmetics) testing program, including safety, stability, claim substantiation, and regulatory reporting.
  • Analyze test results, resolve testing failures, monitor lab/vendor KPIs, and support lab/consultant management (cost, capability, turnaround time).
  • Provide training to vendors and internal teams on product safety standards, testing programs, and protocols.
  • Support updates to product safety and regulatory manuals, test protocols, labeling guidelines, SOPs, and other program documentation.
  • Assist in investigating in-market issues and adverse events, conducting root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA), and escalating to Senior Management, Legal, and Brand teams as needed.
  • Represent Gap Inc. externally, attending trade association meetings and providing regular updates to internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years in product safety, regulatory compliance, testing, and quality across beauty/personal care, accessories, footwear, and toys.
  • Expertise in beauty/cosmetics for the U.S. and Canada markets, including FDA MoCRA, Prop 65, and Health Canada requirements.
  • Familiarity with ingredients, IFRA standards, labeling, safety and claim substantiation, ISO 22716 GMP, and international regulations (e.g. Japan, Mexico, EU, and/or UK) is a plus
  • Expertise in adult and children’s accessories and footwear for the U.S. and international markets, with working knowledge of CPSIA, ASTM, GPSR, SATRA, Prop 65, REACH, and related standards.
  • Proven ability to establish product safety standards and interpret test results to support business-critical decisions.
  • Strong ability to navigate between strategic and tactical work, with excellent multi-tasking, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated and results-driven, with a sense of urgency and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration, building consensus across Brand merchandising and production teams, Sourcing, QA, Legal, and vendor teams.
  • Skilled in influencing and resolving differing viewpoints.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to engage effectively with Brand teams, vendors, and laboratories.
  • Must have strong technical writing capabilities.
  • Strength in supplier engagement, including training, capability assessments, corrective action leadership, and change management.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, PLM, etc.
  • Project management skills are a plus.
  • BS/BA degree preferred.
