About the role
- - Execute the "Ava" Core Engine: Build and maintain the end-to-end inbound and outbound call workflows, ensuring that STT, LLM orchestration, and TTS work in a tight, low-latency loop.
- - Architect Internal High-Leverage Tools: Develop the "Ava Hub"—the internal mission control that allows our non-technical team to tune scripts, review outcomes, and adjust AI behavior without needing a deploy.
- - Own Production Observability: Build the logging, alerting, and audit trails necessary to provide lawyers with total transparency into how Ava is representing their firm.
- - Partner with Leadership: Work directly with the CTO and Founder to translate pilot feedback into production-ready features, moving with the speed and pragmatism required in an early-stage startup.
Requirements
- **Must have**
- - 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- - Experience building and shipping production systems.
- - Proficiency with: Python, Javascript / Typescript, PostgreSQL/ MySQL and GCP or equivalent
- - Comfort working across the full stack—backend, front end, database management systems
- - Startup or early-stage experience is strongly preferred.
- - Must have a bachelor's degree in Engineering (Computer Science/ Information Science/ Information Technology) preferred
- **Good to have **
- - Familiarity with Conversational AI with voice agents or call-center systems.
- - Familiarity with:
- - OpenAI / Anthropic or similar LLM APIs
- - Twilio APIs, Speech-to-Text, and Text-to-Speech
- - Event-driven systems
- - Failure handling and retries
- - Modern coding agents (Claude Code / Vercel)
- - Experience with DevOps in a cloud environment
