About the role

  • Develop manufacturing processes: lead, engineer line layouts and implement Battery Manufacturing processes and launch manufacturing facilities (electrode: mixing, coat, press, slit; Cell Assembly: notch, dry, stack, weld, package; Formation; Module Assembly)
  • Lead simultaneous engineering with Product, Purchasing and Suppliers to deliver manufacturing feasibility and drive design for manufacturability for new Cell, Module and Battery Pack products
  • Work closely with OEMs in the design of manufacturing equipment, process and tooling
  • Collaborate with automation and other technology partners to develop competitive solutions for productivity and own ROI
  • Lead development of quality methods including process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), gauging requirements, inspection methods and deliver a control plan per the quality strategy
  • Develop assembly system solutions including workstation requirements (work content, automated versus manual, buffering strategy, redundancy requirements)
  • Define cycle time / OEE and other performance targets with industrial engineering to develop operating and labor strategies
  • Define equipment acceptance criteria including duration, target results, and quality inspection plan
  • Manage schedule and budget and track change management to deliver quality, cost and timing
  • Lead equipment installation and coordinate with building and utilities team and lead on-site equipment buyoff per acceptance procedures
  • Support plant operations to achieve system performance objectives (OEE, Cycle time / JPH) and enable successful process and system transition to plant operations
  • Create detailed manufacturing instructions and provide relevant process documentation (drawings, PM plans, spare parts, training manuals)
  • Provide plant assistance to support launch requests and extraordinary needs with existing cell suppliers
  • Work with virtual tools to develop equipment and line simulation, in conjunction with OEMs

Requirements

  • Engineering degree (Master’s preferred)
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • Understanding/experience of overall manufacturing processes (Battery preferred) and manufacturing business acumen
  • Minimum 2+ years on major projects
  • Experience implementing large scale projects as a manufacturing engineer or project manager on new specialized manufacturing lines
  • Experience with simulation tools and digital methods: AutoCad / Siemens PLM
  • Developing layouts in AutoCAD and mechanical design stack up understanding highly desirable
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Travel and mobility with short term relocation / ability to work remote is key
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available for this position
