About the role
- Develop and document HV system requirements from a feature level down to functional and component level
- Contribute to Ford’s future HV architecture and features by developing and/or reviewing HV system requirements
- Apply engineering best practices and available standards to define required HV system requirement including but not limited to HV voltage ripple, isolation, safety interlocks, and protection strategies
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in HV system engineering standards globally
- Work closely with LV system integration team to develop required HV system and LV system interoperability requirements
- Develop and execute HV system test plans to validate HV system performance, safety, and functional behaviors
- Develop and execute proper system characterization tests to decompose HV system requirements into HV component requirements
- Collaborate with cross functional teams including SW, mechanical packaging, vehicle integration, and EPA range to characterize system behaviors and optimize performance
- Work closely with vehicle integration team on root causing vehicle integration issues that impact vehicle performance
- Troubleshoot system failures using proper engineering tools and system testing
- Develop and execute diagnostic procedures for effective Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of HV system issues
- Use CAN tools (Vector CANalyzer, CANape) to evaluate system functionality / performance and troubleshoot issues
- Work with internal and external HW design team and support design, build, and validation of HV systems and subsystems
- Perform HV system hands on testing on a bench or in a vehicle
- Use analytical and experimental methods to ensure HV system design meets safety and regulatory standards
- Help resolve technical issues associated with integration of new HV components into HV system
Requirements
- B.S in Electrical, or Computer Engineering, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- 8+ years of experience in HV system requirement and validation
- 5+ years of experience working with HV system engineering standards such as ISO, IEC, NEMA, GBT, etc.
- Deep technical knowledge of HV system architecture and HV components
- Extensive knowledge and experience with HV powertrain system development including HV batteries, traction inverters and electric motors
- In depth knowledge of various electric motor technologies such as IM, PMSM, SRM, etc.
- Hands on experience with testing and validation of HV systems and subsystems
- Extensive hands-on experience in performing HV system issues root cause analysis
- Strong theoretical and experimental knowledge on HV power modules used in traction inverters
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them to automotive concepts
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
