About the role
- Manage and optimize material flow throughout production and warehousing operations, ensuring material availability at designated locations.
- Provide expert engineering support for material flow processes, including developing standards, procedures, training, and driving continuous improvement.
- Design and develop efficient material flow processes and equipment, applying Lean principles to enhance inventory management, space utilization, and overall efficiency in market, sequencing, and kitting areas.
- Define and manage in-plant storage and call systems, establishing appropriate metrics for material control.
- Conduct vehicle and pedestrian flow/safety analyses, recommending practical solutions to improve safety, reduce costs, and optimize efficiency.
- Act as the single point of contact for Material Flow Engineering on assigned New Model Studies, coordinating departmental responses and internal reviews.
- Lead project planning, including developing detailed plans, approving schedule milestones, and coordinating labor, facility, and equipment requirements.
- Identify, forecast, and optimize capital spending for new model programs.
- Implement industrial engineering systems (e.g., standard cost data, capacity forecasting, shop floor control) and drive new technology and automation for material flow.
- Propose alternate plans for economic evaluation and administer technical and work procedures.
- Collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams including Planning & Inventory Control, Production, Supply Chain, Quality, Packaging Engineering, Material Logistics, Manufacturing, and Product Development to achieve optimal cost solutions and continuous improvement.
- Interact regularly with internal functional groups and external vendors on technical and administrative matters.
- Present cost drivers and opportunities to upper management during program milestone and touchpoint reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in Industrial Engineering, Material Flow, or Supply Chain.
- Ability to travel as required.
- Master’s Degree in Engineering (preferred).
- Experience in a manufacturing plant environment, preferably within the automotive industry (preferred).
- Proven expertise in material flow, Lean manufacturing strategies, and automation projects (preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD (preferred).
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, teambuilding, and communication skills, with experience collaborating effectively across all organizational levels (preferred).
- Packaging experience (preferred).
