About the role
- Manage steering component suppliers.
- Review and release 2D & 3D CAD.
- Release program specific Engineering Specifications.
- Review and sign-off supplier test reports.
- Deliver program timing and cost, weight and quality targets.
- Develop Failure Mode Avoidance and Reliability documentation.
- Design, develop and package upper steering system and components.
- Resolve design and package issues.
- Prepare and present project milestone status reports.
- Develop and analyze complex dimensional stack ups.
- Ensure components and system meet specifications and requirements.
- Support vehicle CAE, NVH, Dynamics and Safety teams as needed.
- Perform vehicle build sign-offs.
- Support vehicle launches and issue resolution. Requires travel to Ford and supplier assembly plants as needed.
- Work with the Plant Vehicle Team (PVT), Supplier Technical Assistance (STA) and suppliers to track and improve warranty for your components.
- Identify and implement cost saving ideas.
- International and Domestic travel to supplier and Ford manufacturing sites 1-2 times per year for each supplier and Ford assembly plant.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering.
- 3 years of chassis, steering or other safety critical components.
- Master's in engineering (even better).
- 5 years engineering experience (even better).
- Prior experience as Ford Design and Release Engineer (even better).
- Prior experience with chassis, steering or other safety critical components (even better).
- Failure Mode Avoidance (even better).
- Statistical Data Analysis/Minitab (even better).
- GD&T and reading prints (even better).
- Working knowledge of Ford engineering tools: WERS, FEDE, Teamcenter (even better).
- Problem Solving Skills (8D, 5 Whys, DOE, Is/Is not tools) (even better).
- CAD (Catia) (even better).
- Team Center (even better).
- Good written and oral communication skills (even better).
- Good teamwork (even better).
- Able to work independently (even better).
