Develop, champion, and implement comprehensive design-to-cost strategies from early concept stages through to production.
Lead cross-functional collaboration efforts, fostering strong partnerships with Design, Engineering, Finance, Purchasing, and Manufacturing teams to identify and execute cost reduction opportunities without compromising quality or brand identity.
Drive initiatives focused on value engineering, complexity reduction, and component optimization across vehicle platforms.
Conduct detailed cost analysis of design proposals, materials, and manufacturing processes to identify areas for significant cost savings.
Influence design decisions by providing clear financial implications and alternative solutions that meet both aesthetic and cost objectives.
Ensure all design choices are aligned with and contribute directly to achieving Ford's J1 and TVM cost targets.
Present findings, recommendations, and progress reports to senior leadership, articulating the financial impact and strategic value of design-to-cost initiatives.
Mentor and guide design and engineering teams on best practices for cost-conscious design and value creation.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Industrial, Automotive), Industrial Design, or a closely related field.
10+ years of progressive experience in product design, engineering, cost management, or value engineering within the automotive or a related complex manufacturing industry.
Demonstrated success in leading and implementing significant cost reduction projects.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, material costs, and supply chain dynamics.
Proven ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights related to cost optimization.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
Proficiency with relevant design software and cost analysis tools.
Preferred: Master's degree (e.g., MBA, MS in Engineering Management, or equivalent).
Preferred: Experience with DFMA principles and methodologies.
Preferred: Familiarity with Ford's product development processes and cost management systems (e.g., J1, TVM).
Preferred: Prior leadership or managerial experience guiding cross-functional teams.
