About the role

  • Act as technical lead designing security for Ford vehicles
  • Research future security technologies and perform security benchmarking
  • Develop security designs, write requirements, and support proof-of-concept validation
  • Close security gaps, mitigate identified vulnerabilities, and report to security management
  • Serve as security subject matter expert (SME) shaping security for current and future products
  • ECU and vehicle level issue resolution
  • Development and manufacturing process integration
  • Interface with cross-functional teams on technical cybersecurity issues
  • Review, develop and maintain security requirements and design validation methodologies (DVM)
  • Provide training and consulting to internal Ford function teams
  • Perform risk analysis and develop appropriate countermeasures
  • Support major product programs/new features with security needs
  • Collaborate on projects with internal and external partners
  • Monitor identified vulnerabilities and develop mitigations
  • Understand complex in-vehicle systems, assess risk, root cause and resolve problems
  • Communicate high-level and low-level design details at working and management levels
  • Recognize and accommodate limitations of embedded in-vehicle systems
  • Some travel may be required (conferences, regional team meetings, government/academia visits)

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Cybersecurity
  • 5+ years of experience with embedded and/or automotive systems
  • 3+ years of experience with in-vehicle network architecture, modules, and protocols (CAN, etc.)
  • Ability to develop and maintain engineering documentation including requirements, specifications, test plans, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Preferred: Experience with Secure Onboard Communication (SecOC)
  • Preferred: Experience with Hardware Security Module (HSM) and Secure Hardware Extension (SHE)
  • Preferred: Experience with coding (C, C++, C#, Python, Java, CAPL, JQL)
  • Preferred: Experience with JIRA and Kanban boards for project management
  • Preferred: Familiar with vehicle system capabilities of ECUs on a vehicle
  • Preferred: Familiar with automotive standards (ISO 14229-1, ISO 21434)
  • Preferred: Familiar with quality tools and methodologies (FMEA, DVP)
  • Preferred: Able to work following an agile methodology
  • Preferred: Knowledge of Ford's internal engineering systems and requirements
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility will be required at time of hire.
