About the role
- Provide technical leadership for zoonotic disease (ZD) and emerging infectious disease (EID) surveillance, supporting effective implementation through a multisectoral approach aligned with donor Global Health Security priorities.
- Provide technical oversight for ZD and EID surveillance, including indicator and event-based surveillance (IBS/EBS) across human and animal health sectors.
- Provide technical guidance to strengthen surveillance systems at Points of Entry (PoE), including coordination between routine and event-based surveillance, information flow with national systems, and linkages to response mechanisms.
- Lead day-to-day technical implementation of assigned surveillance activities in line with approved work plans, timelines, and budgets.
- Apply technical expertise to ensure surveillance approaches align with national policies, donor GHS frameworks, and global best practices, including early detection and reporting.
- Maintain close technical coordination with government counterparts, field teams, and implementing partners to support surveillance activities.
- Work across project sub teams to ensure integration between surveillance, laboratory, data, and response activities.
- Provide technical support to update, strengthen, and operationalize health information systems (HIS) for surveillance, including data quality, reporting workflows, and interoperability.
- Ensure coordination and compliance with donor, government, and organizational requirements for surveillance activities.
- Respond to technical assistance requests from EpiC Vietnam leadership and contribute to technical reports and donor briefings.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- A master's degree in social science, public health, or equivalent with minimum 8 years of experience in public health surveillance, infectious disease control, or Global Health Security programs.
- Demonstrated expertise in ZD/EID surveillance, including IBS/EBS or One Health–oriented approaches
- Experience providing technical assistance to government counterparts and working in multisectoral implementation settings.
- Strong ability to coordinate across teams and sectors and translate technical guidance into field-level implementation.
- Experience supporting or strengthening health information systems for surveillance, including data use and reporting.
- Proven ability to ensure donor compliance, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality technical outputs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Vietnamese.
- Ability to travel as necessary.
