About the role
- Serve as a subject-matter advisor to members of the Fédération québécoise des municipalités (FQM) on labour relations;
- Advise members on the interpretation and application of laws, workplace policies and collective agreements, manage grievance processes and represent members on labour relations committees (when required);
- Draft legal opinions;
- Carry out workplace climate assessments and disciplinary investigations;
- Negotiate and draft various types of agreements, collective agreements, contracts, policies and other labour relations documents;
- Conduct in-depth case law and doctrinal research on laws, regulations and labour relations issues;
- Deliver training and write articles on labour relations topics;
- Recommend improvements and optimizations to HR processes and propose required adjustments to policies or practices in response to developments in labour law for FQM members;
- Act as a spokesperson during collective agreement negotiations;
- Work in partnership with other FQM departments.
Requirements
- Hold an undergraduate law degree (LL.B. or J.D.);
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in labour/employment law and in managing complex, diverse files;
- Member of the Barreau du Québec;
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence (occasional local and regional travel);
- Excellent knowledge of labour laws and regulations and of legal research tools/databases;
- Proficient with core Office software and adaptable to new technologies;
- Full professional proficiency in French, both written and spoken;
- Demonstrated skills in conflict management or mediation;
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage and resolve complex situations creatively;
- Integrity and courage;
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision;
- Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team in a dynamic, constantly evolving environment.
