About the role
- Perform engineering calculations and modeling for various assessments, including infiltration and stability, pipeline and drainage ditch design, hydrology and hydraulic studies, erosion, solids settling/decantation, alternative cover demonstrations, geochemistry, and statistical analyses;
- Support the Director of Engineering, civil engineers, and engineers-in-training in meeting project requirements related to scope, cost, and schedule;
- Prepare technical specifications based on inputs provided by other disciplines;
- Plan and execute field exploration programs to collect data supporting site studies and design activities. Work may include geotechnical drilling, test pit descriptions/logging, and the installation, development, and sampling of wells;
- Contribute to the development of engineering, operating, and capital cost estimates;
- Review and assess technical work prepared by junior and intermediate engineers, designers, technicians, and technologists;
- Take on project management responsibilities for capital and maintenance projects;
- Conduct and document site observations and construction quality assurance testing for geosynthetics or earthworks on major civil or energy projects;
- Prepare interpretive reports to support the development of engineering designs and construction documents;
- Develop grading plans and designs using AutoCAD Civil 3D;
- Participate in report writing, cost estimating, preparation of specifications, and permitting documents, with support and review from senior technical resources.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a minimum of 5 years of civil design experience on mining or industrial projects, covering various phases from conceptual study to detailed design;
- Strong experience in site development, pipeline and open-channel hydraulics, and design of mine access roads;
- Experience in designing tailings/slurry pipelines is an asset;
- Experience in stormwater management, including runoff calculations and sizing of ditches, culverts, and basins;
- Good understanding of different coordinate systems and survey controls;
- Experience interpreting and applying geotechnical recommendations to civil designs;
- Experience writing technical reports and specifications and preparing quantities for cost estimates;
- General knowledge of civil engineering design and understanding of industry codes, mining laws and regulations, standards, and construction methods;
- Bilingual (French/English) with strong spoken and written proficiency in both languages. You will regularly communicate with internal and external partners across Canada and in the United States in English, both orally and in writing.
