About the role
- Execute a range of Geotechnical and Environmental projects, including:
- Geotechnical investigations
- Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments
- Soil and groundwater quality assessments
- Contaminated site sampling and delineation
- Soil management projects in accordance with NL environmental regulations, CCME guidelines, and provincial permitting requirements
- Coordinate project logistics including utility locates, site access, borehole layout, and contractor scheduling.
- Monitor geotechnical/environmental drilling, test pit excavations, soil/rock sampling, and monitoring well installations using standard field methodologies under the supervision of senior engineers/professionals.
- Conduct water level monitoring and sampling programs.
- Prepare geotechnical and environmental reports, ensuring deliverables meet project deadlines.
- Collect samples for environmental analytical testing, properly document chain‑of‑custody, and submit to accredited laboratories.
- Perform desktop reviews, data compilation, and interpretation in support of Phase I/II ESA reports, site characterization studies, and NL‑specific environmental compliance requirements (e.g., NL Environmental Protection Act, Contaminated Sites Program, CCME criteria).
- Assist with inspection and testing projects, including report preparation, data interpretation, and client communication.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
- Registration as a P.Eng. or P.Geo.
- 5+ years of experience in a similar geotechnical or geo‑environmental role is preferred.
- Registered as a Environmental Site Professional with the NL Department of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador environmental regulations, including NL Environmental Protection Act (EPA), CCME Soil Quality Guidelines, Provincial contaminated site management requirements, Environmental site assessment best practices.
- Ability to identify and resolve issues encountered on construction and field sites.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, logs, and technical documents.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear field reports and recommendations.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills with high attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle for travel to job sites as required.
- A self‑starter with the potential and motivation to grow into a Project Manager role.
