About the role
- Lead end-to-end programmes of stakeholder engagement and public consultation for major infrastructure projects—setting clear scope, managing budgets, and ensuring high-quality delivery throughout.
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing strategic guidance on stakeholder mapping, insight-driven engagement strategy and approaches, project messaging, and best-practice implementation.
- Create compelling, accessible and visually engaging consultation materials, including public-facing communications, exhibition boards, summaries, and digital content that clearly articulate complex information.
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams, coordinating input from project managers, EIA specialists, engineers, legal advisors, and planners to ensure alignment with consenting requirements, programme milestones, and wider project objectives.
- Build strong, constructive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including local authorities, government bodies, statutory and non-statutory consultees, community groups, and the general public—helping to build trust and demonstrate transparency.
- Lead business development efforts, including shaping persuasive proposals, delivering high-impact client presentations, and contributing to targeted marketing campaigns in collaboration with social sustainability colleagues.
Requirements
- Knowledge and experience of UK planning regimes e.g. DCO, TCPA, Section 36
- Experience of UK infrastructure projects
- Solid stakeholder experience.
- Experience on DCO project applications (desirable)
- Strong consultancy experience
- Research, analytical and inter-personal skills with diligent attention to detail
- Strong project management skills including scopes of work and budgets
- Experience planning and delivering engagement activities (e.g. public consultations, exhibitions, workshops, meetings)
- Comfortable and confident engaging with all types of stakeholders, including clients and communities
- Excellent writing and presentation skills.
