About the role

  • Provide strategic leadership and technical direction for the Master’s in Development Practice (MDP) program
  • Supervise, mentor, coach, and advocate for MDP students, faculty, and staff
  • Cultivate inclusive culture and ensure equitable admissions and scholarship processes
  • Identify and pursue external funding and oversee program fund management
  • Build and sustain strategic partnerships within and outside Emory; participate in university committees and initiatives
  • Review and approve annual reports, learning outcome assessments, and required documentation
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and promote transparent communication between leadership and the MDP community
  • Teach or co-teach MDP courses and supervise independent student research as needed
  • Oversee internship and field practicum placements and support student/alumni career advancement
  • Implement research bridging disciplines; produce scholarly publications and represent MDP at conferences

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree required
  • 10-12 years of experience in global/community development or in a relevant sector
  • Preferred: 15 years of experience in global/community development or relevant sector
  • Understanding of current landscape of foreign aid and development practice, as demonstrated by thought leadership, research, and advocacy
  • Experience in academic leadership, strategic planning, program design and implementation, and faculty/staff development
  • Proven ability to build partnerships and collaborate across institutions, sectors, and disciplines
  • Outstanding communication skills, including effective writing and public speaking
  • Experience supervising staff and mentoring students
  • Experience with admissions processes, scholarship parameters, and managing program funds
  • Ability to teach or co-teach graduate courses and supervise independent research
