About the role
- Provide support for a variety of programs, projects, and special tasks
- Work must be completed in accordance with NRCS policies, guides, and the state Field Office Technical Guide (FOTG)
- Assist agency staff with project planning, documentation and implementation both in the office and in the field
- Inventory and evaluate potential new project sites to support conservation practice systems
- Assist and complete required engineering surveys to support future designs and construction project layout
- Assisting with development of engineering design calculations, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, asbuilts, etc.
- Assist and complete construction inspection of construction projects during construction and report findings to the appointed government representative or responsible NRCS employee
- Keep track of ongoing quantities for construction projects and communicate with NRCS employees, design approver, owner and others on project coordination, potential problems, potential needs for contract design, cost, or specification modifications
- Provide documentation that is accurate and complete for all assigned construction projects maintaining files that document these activities
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with appropriate contractors, landowners, agency personnel, material providers, regulatory personnel, local unit of government Sponsors, NRCS employees, other Construction Inspectors, various county and district employees and others as needed on all assigned projects
Requirements
- Minimum experience shall be 1-year similar job experience
- Minimum education shall be a High School degree or equivalent
- Must possess and maintain a valid state issued driver’s license
- Proficient in word processing
- Knowledgeable and experienced in drafting software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D 2016 or later
- Knowledgeable and experienced in operating small office machines such as calculators, fax machines, scanners and copy machines
- Must be skillful in working and communicating with the general public
- Must possess basic telephone and email skills
- All contractor employees must read, write, speak and understand English fluently.
- Demonstrates knowledge and support of the Equal Opportunity and Civil Rights policy.
- Must be able to pass a Government Security Clearance and background check
- Must be capable of working independently.
- Knowledgeable and experienced in general office procedures, such as preparing reports, spreadsheets and filing.
- Must be able to utilize Microsoft Outlook for email and calendars and internet browsers such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge
- Knowledgeable and experienced with: interpreting plans and specifications, preparing project cost estimates, conducting basic surveys, construction inspection, construction site safety.
- Knowledgeable and experienced in utilizing a variety of computer hardware and software applications, such as Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TEAMS, Adobe Acrobat Professional.
