About the role
- Partner across the engineering team to ensure K-LOVE's programming is broadcast successfully through expert installation, maintenance, operation, updates, and intricate repairs
- Lead operation, testing, and maintenance of advanced broadcast equipment such as audio processors, transmission systems, EAS equipment, receivers, monitors, electrical systems
- Drive a culture of excellence by identifying opportunities to enhance system performance, reliability, and efficiency with focus on IP-based, modern microwave, and LEO satellite solutions
- Conduct mandatory on-site visits to each assigned transmitter site at least once per quarter and provide immediate expert response for unplanned outages and emergency repairs
- Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on non-broadcast equipment (generators, HVAC, minor electrical/plumbing) to ensure complete site functionality
- Undertake trips to remote sites for complex installations or critical repairs and to ministry headquarters for training or project leadership
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical faults down to the component level using advanced analytical methods
- Partner and communicate with engineers (including contract engineers) and serve as an escalation point and mentor for junior Broadcast Engineers
- Maintain expert-level understanding of FCC rules and ensure equipment and operations are compliant
- Champion K-LOVE's Injury Prevention and Safety program and strictly follow lock out-tag out procedures; serve as Chief Operator/Engineer for assigned stations
- Complete administrative documentation (timecards, expense reports, vehicle logs, budgeting documents) and maintain asset management, work order, and ticketing systems
- Respond promptly and professionally to emails, texts, and phone calls and maintain organized digital and physical records
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electronics, broadcast communications, or related technical studies OR at least three years of directly related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- SBE “Radio Operator Certification”
- Minimum of 4 years of experience maintaining and troubleshooting complex broadcast electronic systems
- Proven experience working independently in a field-based technical role
- Deep knowledge of broadcast air-chain systems and IP-based signal distribution
- Intermediate networking knowledge (TCP/IP, routing, switching)
- Familiarity with LEO satellite and microwave technologies
- Understanding of radio frequency emissions and applicable FCC rules
- Ability to interpret schematics, electrical diagrams, and blueprints
- Proficient in soldering and using VOMs, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and standard industry software
- Skilled in logical, methodical diagnosis and resolution of complex issues
- Communicates with grace, humility, and respect; receptive to feedback and collaboration
- Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing technical learning and advancement
- Must be authorized to legally work in the United States (EMF uses E-Verify)
- Adherence to safety standards including lock out-tag out procedures
