About the role
- Conduct inspections and audits of organic operators for compliance with USDA National Organic Program and other related standards
- Review farm, livestock and/or handling system plans in accordance with applicable regulations and standards
- Handle travel and scheduling logistics and conduct inspections of applicants and certified operations as assigned
- Assess compliance of operations with applicable regulations/standards and reports
- Communicate inspection results through excellent written and oral communication within established timelines
- Interface with certification staff to provide further information necessary for certification decisions
- Conduct peer evaluations of other inspectors in the field, as assigned
- Work collaboratively with other NICS/Ecocert staff to share context and information gathered during inspection trips and meetings with producers to help inform and improve NICS/Ecocert policies, procedures, and business practices
- Travel extensively 60-80% of the time throughout the United States.
Requirements
- Experience / education in agriculture and/or food manufacturing
- Detail-oriented, with excellent oral and written communication skills
- Highly self-organized with the ability to prioritize work, managing multiple projects while maintaining quality
- Ability to work independently and partner with a diverse group of staff and producers
- Able to clearly communicate complex technical information in a positive and effective manner
- Skilled and comfortable using Microsoft Office software, Adobe Acrobat, databases, and other information technology.
