Conduct inspections and audits of organic operators for compliance with USDA National Organic Program and other related standards
Review farm, livestock and/or handling system plans in accordance with applicable regulations and standards
Handle travel and scheduling logistics and conduct inspections of applicants and certified operations as assigned
Assess compliance of operations with applicable regulations/standards and reports
Communicate inspection results through excellent written and oral communication within established timelines
Interface with certification staff to provide further information necessary for certification decisions
Conduct peer evaluations of other inspectors in the field, as assigned
Work collaboratively with other NICS/Ecocert staff to share context and information gathered during inspection trips and meetings with producers to help inform and improve NICS/Ecocert policies, procedures, and business practices
Travel extensively 60-80% of the time throughout the United States.
Requirements
Experience / education in agriculture and/or food manufacturing
Detail-oriented, with excellent oral and written communication skills
Highly self-organized with the ability to prioritize work, managing multiple projects while maintaining quality
Ability to work independently and partner with a diverse group of staff and producers
Able to clearly communicate complex technical information in a positive and effective manner
Skilled and comfortable using Microsoft Office software, Adobe Acrobat, databases, and other information technology.
