About the role

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a distributed team of 5+ web engineers; promote continuous improvement and career development
  • Recruit top-tier talent and shape engineering culture at a fast-paced startup
  • Provide technical direction across web development initiatives using Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, React, and modern web stacks
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, QA, and stakeholders to deliver scalable solutions under startup timelines
  • Spearhead building and shipping AI-powered features; prototype, evaluate, and implement AI-driven enhancements
  • Own full software development lifecycle from requirements to deployment and post-launch support
  • Ensure Agile/Scrum best practices including sprint planning and retrospectives
  • Set engineering KPIs, ensure on-time delivery, optimize workflows, and work with DevOps/QA to remove bottlenecks

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional experience building and launching production-grade software in SaaS or similar high-scale industries
  • Proven experience working in high-growth startup environments
  • Demonstrated success managing remote teams (5+ engineers)
  • Strong portfolio of shipped web applications with significant AI-driven features or tooling
  • Skilled in modern web development technologies including Ruby on Rails, React, JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Experience with modern CI/CD workflows
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, AI/ML, API design, and scalable systems
  • Proven experience driving complex engineering projects from idea to execution
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Must be a permanent resident or citizen of the United States or Canada (role open to those candidates)
