About the role

  • Review or prepare financial statements, schedules, and reports; journal entries; fixed asset schedules; payroll; and other general accounting functions for assigned clients.
  • Consult with clients on accounting, tax, and business matters, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, cash management, debt management, sales and use tax, and regulatory filings.
  • Review work prepared by staff, providing feedback to ensure accuracy and support professional development.
  • Research and document technical accounting and tax issues to support compliance and provide guidance to team members.
  • Coordinate preparation of complex and non-complex tax returns, including income, payroll, sales and use tax, and business license filings.
  • Oversee or assist with client invoicing, accounts payable processing, and ACH transactions as needed.
  • Analyze financial data, identify trends, and prepare reports to keep clients informed and support strategic decision-making.
  • Responsible for detailed daily tracking of hours by client and project.
  • Develop and maintain internal systems, processes, and quality controls to ensure compliance deadlines are met and reporting integrity is maintained.
  • Manage special projects such as budgeting, financial projections, profitability analysis, cash flow modeling, internal control reviews, and tax planning strategies.
  • On specific assigned clients, oversee, coordinate, and review the assigned client activities of other staff to ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and/or financial schedules & reports, journal entries, fixed asset schedules, payroll, and/or other general accounting/financial duties.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as identified or needed to help drive our Vision and abide by our client promise to help our clients grow.
  • Mentor and coach client accounting team members to foster growth and deliver exceptional client service.
  • Monitor and manage all client engagement deadlines, including monthly, quarterly, and annual closings; payroll cycles; tax filings; and special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required; CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • At least 2+ years in a Controller role with direct supervisory experience; CPA firm experience is a plus.
  • Minimum 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including financial statement preparation, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and other cloud-based accounting platforms preferred.
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting is a plus.
