About the role
- Own and lead the organisation’s cloud and infrastructure strategy across Azure and AWS
- Take full responsibility for the design, implementation, and operation of all cloud infrastructure
- Assess the current cloud and infrastructure landscape and drive immediate improvements where required
- Define and enforce cloud architecture standards, patterns, and best practices
- Design and maintain highly available, secure, and resilient systems, including DR and failover strategies
- Own cloud security posture, including identity, access controls, network security, and platform hardening
- Establish and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability across all environments
- Drive cost optimisation initiatives and ensure cloud spend is well understood, controlled, and efficient
- Ensure operational excellence through documentation, runbooks, and clear ownership models
- Partner closely with engineering, DevOps, security, and compliance teams to enable scalable delivery
- Act as the final authority on cloud and infrastructure decisions
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and production issues and lead root-cause analysis efforts
- Ensure environments meet performance, reliability, and compliance requirements at all times
- Stay current with cloud platform advancements and continuously evolve the infrastructure strategy
- Mentor and uplift engineers on cloud best practices, architecture, and operational maturity
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in infrastructure, cloud engineering, or platform engineering roles
- Strong production experience with Microsoft Azure, including networking, compute, storage, and identity
- Solid hands-on experience with AWS and multi-cloud architecture principles
- Proven experience designing and operating cloud platforms at scale
- Strong Infrastructure as Code experience
- Experience with container platforms and modern cloud-native architectures
- Deep understanding of cloud security principles and shared responsibility models
- Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions
- Strong understanding of reliability, scalability, and performance engineering
- Ability to work independently and take ownership from day one
- Experience operating in regulated or high-trust environments is highly advantageous
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent experience preferred
- Cloud certifications are beneficial but not a substitute for real-world experience.
