About the role

  • Own and lead the organisation’s cloud and infrastructure strategy across Azure and AWS
  • Take full responsibility for the design, implementation, and operation of all cloud infrastructure
  • Assess the current cloud and infrastructure landscape and drive immediate improvements where required
  • Define and enforce cloud architecture standards, patterns, and best practices
  • Design and maintain highly available, secure, and resilient systems, including DR and failover strategies
  • Own cloud security posture, including identity, access controls, network security, and platform hardening
  • Establish and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability across all environments
  • Drive cost optimisation initiatives and ensure cloud spend is well understood, controlled, and efficient
  • Ensure operational excellence through documentation, runbooks, and clear ownership models
  • Partner closely with engineering, DevOps, security, and compliance teams to enable scalable delivery
  • Act as the final authority on cloud and infrastructure decisions
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and production issues and lead root-cause analysis efforts
  • Ensure environments meet performance, reliability, and compliance requirements at all times
  • Stay current with cloud platform advancements and continuously evolve the infrastructure strategy
  • Mentor and uplift engineers on cloud best practices, architecture, and operational maturity

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in infrastructure, cloud engineering, or platform engineering roles
  • Strong production experience with Microsoft Azure, including networking, compute, storage, and identity
  • Solid hands-on experience with AWS and multi-cloud architecture principles
  • Proven experience designing and operating cloud platforms at scale
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience
  • Experience with container platforms and modern cloud-native architectures
  • Deep understanding of cloud security principles and shared responsibility models
  • Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions
  • Strong understanding of reliability, scalability, and performance engineering
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership from day one
  • Experience operating in regulated or high-trust environments is highly advantageous
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent experience preferred
  • Cloud certifications are beneficial but not a substitute for real-world experience.
