About the role
- Professionally communicate with clients about case updates, document requirements, deadlines, and next steps.
- Maintain confidentiality, empathy, and professionalism in sensitive family law matters.
- Collect information for declarations, discovery responses, and case development.
- Draft, edit, and format legal documents including motions, pleadings, declarations, discovery requests, and responses.
- Prepare specialized filings such as "Motion for Reconsideration" (writing sample may be requested).
- Follow attorneys' formatting style, tone, and guidelines.
- Prepare accurate and organized documents for California courts.
- Propound and respond to discovery requests: form interrogatories, special interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admissions.
- Identify, collect, and organize documents using client checklists and notes.
- Track deadlines to ensure timely and accurate discovery submissions.
- Understand document requirements related to divorce, custody, child support, and family law matters.
- Assist attorneys in hearings, mediations, and settlement preparations.
- Maintain organized digital case files.
- Track deadlines, court dates, and follow-ups using legal task systems.
- Ensure quality control of outgoing legal documents.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to learn AI-based legal tools and practice management platforms.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years as a Family Law Paralegal.
- Strong knowledge of California family law procedures preferred.
- Advanced legal writing and formatting skills (writing samples required).
- Experience drafting motions, pleadings, declarations, discovery, and court-ready documents.
- Proficient in discovery procedures.
- Strong technical skills with MS Office and legal document tools.
- Ability to follow checklists, attorney instructions, and SOPs accurately.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication.
- Openness to feedback and willingness to improve.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Proactive, resourceful, and able to work independently.
- Adaptable to fast-paced legal environments.
