About the role

  • Develop, lead, and participate in policy advocacy at the state and federal level
  • Develop, lead, and participate in litigation—including individual representation and systemic litigation
  • Represent individual clients in negotiations, mediations, and administrative proceedings
  • Supervise and mentor the work of attorneys, fellows, and interns, as assigned
  • Prepare or coordinate training materials, publications, reports, or special projects, or make presentations about legal work as necessary
  • Provide technical assistance and substantive training to other Disability Rights California staff on complex Healthcare/HCBS issues
  • Collaborate with other agencies and organizations to address systemic issues impacting access to Medi-Cal and HCBS
  • Participate in other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree plus seven years of experience practicing law
  • Demonstrated expertise in Medicaid and health care law
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex representation, build strong relationships, and work well in collaboration with others
  • Four years of demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas of practice related to the position: representation in administrative hearings, policy advocacy, civil litigation
  • Excellent advocacy skills (such as research, writing, analytic, oral)
  • The ability to work independently with appropriate supervision
  • The ability to meet deadlines and perform multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail
  • Must be a member of the California State Bar, or eligible to practice under the Registered Legal Services Attorney Program
