About the role
- The Catholic Diocese of Raleigh is seeking a Parish Accounting Service (PAS) Supervisor to join its dynamic PAS team.
- This pivotal role provides critical financial oversight and leadership for the parishes and schools, balancing strategic departmental management with hands-on technical accounting.
- Works closely with and supports the Parish Accounting Service (PAS) Manager with managing the PAS team, including, but not limited to: Partnering in the recruitment, hiring, and comprehensive training of departmental staff.
- Directing the daily workflow and task prioritization of the department.
- Developing strategic recommendations for organizational improvement and service advancement.
- Conducting constructive, timely performance evaluations for PAS staff.
- Collaborating with management on employee relations matters, including disciplinary actions and terminations, in accordance with Diocesan policy.
- Performs bookkeeping functions for various parishes, schools, and ministries for whom the Diocese has assumed administrative support of financial record-keeping.
- This includes, but is not limited to: Executing accounts payable, check processing, and expense reimbursement services.
- Performing bank account reconciliations and monitoring general ledger integrity.
- Analyzing and interpreting financial data to prepare/review reports, statements, and projections on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Monitoring cash flow and managing various financial transactions.
- Attending parish finance council meetings, primarily remotely, when requested.
- Acts as a liaison between the Diocese and parishes, schools, and ministries for financial-related matters that arise.
- Provides onsite accounting services and support to parishes and schools, as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s in accounting or a related field with knowledge of non-profit accounting.
- 5+ years of general accounting experience and 2+ years of accounting-related management experience.
- Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal background and reference check; must complete Diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training upon hire.
- Proficiency in various financial accounting software platforms.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Intermediate Excel).
- Thorough understanding of accounting principles and procedures.
- Proven ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement effective solutions.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and staff simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with a customer service focus.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness of work products.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to always maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor reflective of the values and mission of the Diocese.
- Working knowledge of Church policies/operations or a strong willingness to learn.
- Dedicated home workspace with a reliable, high-speed internet connection.
- Ability to travel throughout the Diocese (approximately 5-10%).
