About the role

  • Manager, Travel Media Relations is accountable for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating Media Relations programs, policies, and initiatives for Destination British Columbia.
  • The position manages short and long-term media relations campaigns designed to generate unpaid media coverage.
  • Develops the Travel Media Relations plan for the US and Canada to align with the Global Marketing Strategy.
  • Develops strategic plans to appropriately reflect business and market needs within budgetary and corporate planning initiatives.
  • Develops region and market-specific media relations plans to support marketing campaigns and activities.
  • Ensures integration and coordination of international media relations activities with head office and regional activities.
  • Develops, evaluates, and ensures the effective implementation of media relations strategies to generate awareness of BC in the US and Canada, increase visitation and maximize tourism revenue.
  • Provides leadership through participation in general and specific DBC development initiatives.

Requirements

  • University degree or diploma in Marketing or related major or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ Tourism marketing experience especially, though not limited to, travel trade marketing and partnerships, travel media relations and/or consumer marketing
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience developing and managing staff
  • Experience with overseeing and being accountable for managing complex budgets
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required
  • Preference may be given to applications who have one or more of the following: Experience working or having an understanding of Global business and cultural norms and expectations
