About the role
- Technical mastery & impact (0–3 months): Dive deep into our stack and quickly contribute production-ready code that is clean, performant, and reliable. Lead by example—raise code quality, improve test coverage and rigor, and drive continuous improvement.
- Ownership, mentorship & architecture (3–6 months): Take responsibility for core backend systems and lead their development as we scale. Mentor engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and structured knowledge sharing.
- Vision, strategy & team leadership (6–12 months): Define and evolve backend architecture and system design in alignment with product goals. Establish technical excellence through standards, documentation, and processes. Grow the backend team and support hiring, onboarding, and career development.
Requirements
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, plus at least 7 years of professional experience in backend development (or demonstrable equivalent expertise).
- Proven track record of leading initiatives, making architectural decisions, and mentoring other developers.
- Deep experience building scalable microservices with FastAPI, Flask, or similar frameworks.
- Familiarity with designing complex systems, writing comprehensive pytest test suites, and ensuring code quality through reviews and automation.
- Solid knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployments, ideally on Azure with Kubernetes.
- Experience designing and operating event-driven systems and distributed services at scale.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, ability to thrive in collaborative environments, enjoyment in coaching teammates, and aligning technical approaches with product and business objectives.
