About the role
- Champion a strong, values-led safety culture across the business.
- Promote awareness through toolbox talks, training sessions and ongoing engagement initiatives.
- Lead by example, reinforcing high standards of safe working practices and procedural compliance.
- Develop, review and maintain Health & Safety policies, procedures and Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Ensure full compliance with relevant UK legislation and industry best practice.
- Support and maintain ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Proactively identify hazards and implement control measures to mitigate operational risk and reduce external liabilities.
- Identify training needs to maintain workforce competence and compliance.
- Deliver and coordinate H&S training across operational and management teams.
- Provide guidance and support in the preparation and review of risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Provide leadership and direction to the internal H&S function, including site auditors.
- Oversee contractor and supply chain onboarding, ensuring adherence to required safety standards.
- Act as a key point of contact for client representatives in relation to H&S matters.
- Conduct and oversee routine site inspections and audits.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, ensuring thorough root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Produce regular performance reports, highlighting trends and recommending improvements.
- Support senior leadership with the development of project-specific HSEQ documentation and management plans.
Requirements
- NEBOSH or equivalent qualification as a minimum.
- Demonstrable experience in a similar senior H&S role within telecoms, utilities or construction environments.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regionally.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
