Machine Learning Engineer

• Establish the inner workings of Echo's technical stack.
• Build and maintain the data pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and experiment tooling that power Echo's modelling work.

Senior Machine Learning Engineer

• Design experiments that isolate signal from noise in ecological data, and design tests that can increment progress forward when results are ambiguous.
• Work with the CTO to prioritize intermediate outputs, publication opportunities, and risks.
• Work iteratively with the CSO to test and refine modelling approaches and uncertainty quantification that can be interpreted in ecological context.
• Define a standardization strategy that ensures model comparability across ecosystems and geographies.
• Translate ecological hypotheses from the CSO into testable ML experiments.
• Implement, train, and evaluate models that characterise ecosystem condition across multiple measurement modalities.
• Contribute to research outputs: white papers, technical documentation, and peer-reviewed publications.
• Working with a growing team under your management, you will develop and maintain the technical stack to ensure reproducible, rapid experimentation.
• Work with the leadership team to hire and lead additional engineers and data scientists.
• Evaluate and communicate needs and opportunities to creatively accelerate progress.
• Establish technical standards, code review practices, and documentation norms.

Director of Modelling

• Build and run the operational backbone that allows Echo’s scientific and technical teams to execute rapidly and at scale.
• Design, implement, and oversee internal project management and coordination systems, ensuring clear milestones, ownership, and reporting across scientific, technical, and operational workstreams.
• Establish day-to-day operating rhythms, supported by lightweight but robust internal infrastructure, enabling the organisation to scale without bureaucracy.
• Build a team to manage Echo’s first large-scale ecological field campaign, coordinating timelines, logistics, and dependencies to ensure readiness for a 2027 launch.
• Prepare and coordinate materials for the Board of Directors, including operational updates, budgets, and decision memos, working closely with the CEO.
• Act as Echo’s primary point of contact with Convergent Research on all administrative matters, ensuring smooth coordination across finance, HR, legal, and compliance functions.

• Lead initiatives on the Hill and grow government funding portfolio
• Represent Convergent in policy circles and ensure FROs have needed resources
• Interface with agency leadership and translate ambitious science into understandable language
• Identify and source breakthrough concepts for new FROs

Partner – Policy & Government Programs

• Develop, implement, and evaluate scalable pipelines for synapse detection and partner assignment in large-scale optical connectomics datasets, integrating morphological and protein labeling information
• Collaborate with wet lab scientists and domain experts to develop methods for detecting and classifying cellular and synaptic subtypes
• Take ownership of structuring and organizing connectivity data into well-defined data models, and building developer-facing tooling to maximize the long-term usability, accessibility, and impact of generated connectivity data
• Assist in any ML-adjacent image processing needs that may arise during scaling of the processing and analysis pipeline (e.g. image volume registration, multimodal feature extraction, label-free prediction etc.)
• Collaborate closely with users and stakeholders to deliver clear, accurate, and actionable connectivity information
• Partner with wet lab, microscopy, and computational teams to optimize data analysis workflows and inform data acquisition strategies
