Provide legal assistance and representation to individuals under 60 regarding eligibility and access to services for Medicare, Medicaid, Health Insurance Marketplace, Long-Term Care, and financial assistance programs.
Provide legal assistance and representation to individuals regarding eligibility for SSI and SSDI, including representing clients at ALJ hearings, Appeals Council appeals, and potentially Federal Court.
Represent clients for Healthcare Administration (AHCA) and Department of Children and Families (DCF) hearings.
Conduct client interviews, investigate fact situations, gather and evaluate evidence and witnesses, draft letters, emails, memoranda, pleadings, briefs; assist with applications and appeals; complete forms; review agency notices and medical records; perform legal research; communicate with outside agencies.
Supervise legal interns and paralegals assigned to cases within practice areas.
Attend unit meetings, comply with program and unit forms and directives, complete monthly case reports, report to unit on developments.
Return client calls/emails in a timely manner, maintain records, case notes, and daily time-keeping in CCLA's case management system.
Ensure substantial compliance with the CCLA Program Priority Plan and Legal Services Corporation guidelines.
Perform community outreach events in person and/or virtually, on social media, and conduct educational trainings for staff, clients, and community providers.
Maintain compliance with program and grant requirements, including preparing grant reports.
Perform other duties as assigned by Management or Supervisors.
Requirements
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Florida bar membership in good standing.
Experience or demonstrated interest in working with people with disabilities and/or lower socioeconomic status preferred.
Prior healthcare or public benefit experience, particularly with Medicare/Medicaid, or SSDI/SSI is preferred.
Flexible, effective, written and oral communication skills.
Ability to multitask, organize, detail-oriented, prioritize, and manage a diverse case load.
Must have the ability to work efficiently and independently with supervision.
Capable of acting with substantial degree of independence and working as part of a team is essential.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Professional demeanor and client-oriented focus.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and in using virtual platforms (Zoom, MS Teams).
