Provide legal assistance and representation to seniors, aged 60 and older, throughout Broward County regarding healthcare and public benefits related issues
Handle Social Security, SSI, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) and access to healthcare cases
Provide legal assistance and representation regarding Medicare, Medicaid, Health Insurance Marketplace, Long-Term Care, and financial assistance programs
Represent clients at Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA) and Department of Children and Families (DCF) hearings before a Hearing Officer
Conduct client interviews, respond to client phone calls, conduct discovery, investigate facts, review agency notices and medical records, gather and evaluate evidence, and interview healthcare providers and witnesses
Represent clients in Social Security cases at hearings before Administrative Law Judge (ALJ), Appeals Council appeals, and potentially in Federal Court
Advise and represent clients in SNAP/TANF cases as needed
Perform legal research, complete forms, and draft letters, emails, memoranda, pleadings, and briefs
Develop case strategies, analyze probable outcomes, troubleshoot, and prioritize cases
Comply with program requirements including case management, time-keeping, reporting, professional development, and mandated trainings
Perform community outreach events and educational trainings for staff, clients, and community providers
Supervise paralegals, interns, and volunteers assigned to cases
Communicate case progress to Supervising Attorney
Perform other duties as requested by Management or required by grants
Requirements
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
Florida bar membership in good standing
Prior healthcare or public benefit experience, particularly with Medicare/Medicaid is a plus
Experience or demonstrated interest in working with people with disabilities and/or lower socioeconomic status preferred
Capable of acting with substantial degree of independence and responsibility in a professional capacity
Written and oral communication skills
Ability to multitask, organize, detail-oriented, prioritize, and manage a diverse case load
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
Professional demeanor and client-oriented focus
Proficient in Microsoft Office and in using virtual platforms (Zoom, MS Teams)
Must pass a background check before employment begins
