About the role

  • Provide day-to-day guidance to management and HR teams on employment and human resources matters
  • Analyze novel and complex labor and employment law issues across multiple jurisdictions
  • Deliver multistate labor and employment law compliance advice and develop strategies to proactively avoid legal issues
  • Advise and represent the company on matters including recruitment and hiring practices, background check processes, employee leave and reasonable accommodation (ADA, FMLA, etc.), wage and hour compliance, employee vs. independent contractor classification, F L S A exemption determinations, performance management and termination procedures, and EEOC claims and other agency matters
  • Draft, update, and implement employment policies, handbooks, and workplace procedures
  • Prepare and negotiate employment agreements, separation agreements and settlement arrangements, and multistate restrictive covenant agreements, including non-compete, non-solicitation, and confidentiality provisions
  • Oversee labor and employment aspects of transactions, including due diligence, issue mitigation strategies, and revising representations and warranties in purchase agreements
  • Represent the company in investigations by administrative agencies, including the Department of Labor (DOL)
  • Defend against claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and wage/hour violations by preparing and responding to discovery, drafting position and mediation statements, and preparing dispositive motions

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an American Bar Association-accredited law school and active license to practice law
  • 2–4 years of employment law experience, with a focus on advising multistate employers
  • Labor and employment law litigation experience, including defending employers in matters involving discrimination, wrongful termination, restrictive covenants, and wage and hour disputes
  • Proven ability to advise employers on workplace policies and day-to-day employment law issues
  • Skilled in drafting discovery requests, initial pleadings, dispositive motions, and position statements with persuasive advocacy
  • Strong writing, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Adept at managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintains a professional image in both appearance and behavior
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
