About the role
- Participate in monthly closing process, including journal entries, financial statements and related variance/account analysis, with a primary focus on Avantax Planning Partners and Avantax Tax Practices
- Perform daily/periodic cash entries, cash clearing and coordinate with business partner to resolve cash variances
- Record and monitor recurring and ad hoc accruals to ensure expenses and revenues are recognized in the appropriate period
- Perform ongoing accounts receivable tracking and reconciliation and work closely with the operation teams to compare records, investigate variances and resolve outstanding items
- Prepare, review and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, and address any reconciling items in a timely manner
- Support quarterly and year-end financial reporting and audit
- Assist with integration activities associated with Avantax Tax Practices mergers & acquisitions
- Analyze current procedures and recommend changes to develop and implement best practice accounting procedures
- Continuously work to enhance the internal control framework. Ensure timely execution of controls
- Partner with other teams/departments on ad hoc requests as determined by management
Requirements
- BA/BS degree in Accounting or related fields with solid understanding of GAAP
- 2+ years relevant accounting experience
- Highly motivated with demonstrated ability to manage concurrent projects, highly adaptive with the fast-paced work environment, and collaborate effectively across business functions
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with a high level of attention to detail
- Strong technical, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Track record of taking initiative to resolve issues
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and work in a team-oriented environment
- Technology savvy with intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Experience with Oracle and Blackline (or similar systems) preferred
- Experience in public accounting and broker-dealers preferred
- CPA license a plus, but not required
