About the role

  • Support the scaling of RDBMS (Postgres, MySQL, Amazon Aurora) and NoSQL systems (Cassandra, MongoDB) through proactive monitoring and maintenance.
  • Assist in building and maintaining automation and tooling (Infrastructure as Code) to reduce toil and streamline database deployments.
  • Participate in the database "backbone" operations, including managing backups, performing restores, and supporting high-availability (HA) configurations.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in production and non-production environments to ensure 24/7 reliability.
  • Work closely with senior engineers and product teams to implement database schema changes and follow established best practices for scalable distributed systems.
  • Ensure our data resources are protected and leveraged efficiently through consistent application of security standards and replication monitoring.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience managing or supporting cloud-based database systems (AWS/GCP).
  • Strong working knowledge of RDBMS (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and experience with NoSQL systems (MongoDB or Cassandra).
  • Experience using or modifying automation tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
  • Proficiency in Python or Bash for automating routine administrative tasks.
  • Understanding of database backups, replication, and high-availability concepts.
  • Solid SQL skills with the ability to troubleshoot and tune basic query performance issues.
  • Exposure to distributed systems or horizontal scaling concepts (e.g., sharding or read-replicas) is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal skills, with a collaborative mindset suited for a remote-first, distributed environment.
