About the role

  • Provide all necessary care to residents in accordance with each resident’s care plan.
  • Ensure residents’ optimal functioning and well-being within a supportive therapeutic environment.
  • Pay particular attention to resident safety and encourage resident participation.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited Personal Support Worker (PSW) program* that meets the standards established by the Long-Term Care Recovery Act.
  • The program must include a minimum of one hundred forty (140) hours of practical coursework, preferably completed in a geriatric or long‑term care setting.
  • The combined duration of coursework and practical experience must total 600 hours.
  • Care areas: resident hygiene, optimal functioning, well‑being, feeding and elimination.
  • Practices and routines for providing health care assistance in a long‑term care setting.
  • Guidelines for infection prevention and control.
  • Techniques for transferring and repositioning residents.
  • Approaches to rehabilitation and palliative care.
  • Relevant health and safety legislation, including workers’ rights and responsibilities.
  • Language requirements may vary; proficiency in English, French, OR both languages may be required.
