About the role
- The incumbent is responsible for monitoring, investigating and enforcing regulations and legislation related to the public transit network (bus and rail).
- Ensures that transit staff and contractors operate in compliance with regulatory frameworks for the O-Train networks and with all regulatory bodies, including Transport Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation for conventional transit.
- Additionally responsible for providing regulatory leadership and expertise for rail projects and systems, offering guidance for problem resolution, identifying gaps, and ensuring safety and compliance with legislation, policies, regulations and recommendations.
- The incumbent is also responsible for monitoring regulatory compliance, ensuring timely and appropriate implementation by staff and contractors; conducting investigations and compliance audits on findings; leading monitoring and audit activities; making recommendations for improvement; and taking appropriate action to remediate instances of non-compliance.
Requirements
- University degree (four-year) in public policy, social sciences, regulatory affairs, engineering, occupational health and safety or a related field.
- At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience leading strategic projects, policy development, regulatory compliance, governance, auditing, risk assessment or quality assurance projects of increasing complexity, in the transportation sector or within municipal government.
- Experience in the rail sector is an asset.
- Required to obtain certification under the Canada Railway Operating Rules and/or the Rules for the Operation of Electric Light Rail Vehicles within the timeframe specified by the employer.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence without restrictions (or provincial equivalent) and no more than six demerit points.
