About the role
- The Water Distribution Branch manages the operation and maintenance of the City of Ottawa’s water distribution network to ensure a continuous, adequate supply of high-quality drinking water to customers at the lowest possible cost.
- Assess the condition, detect leaks, operate, repair and maintain mains, valves and service connections throughout the distribution network.
- Inspect, maintain and repair fire hydrants.
- Prepare or oversee the preparation of reports and documentation to satisfy management as well as regulatory and legislative requirements.
Requirements
- University degree from a four-year engineering program (environmental, chemical, civil, or mechanical) or a related discipline.
- Seven years of relevant experience in a public works or utility environment, with progressively responsible hands-on experience in the operation and maintenance or design of water distribution networks and related technical support.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Required to obtain the Ontario Ministry of the Environment’s Drinking Water Distribution Operator Certificate (Class III) within the timeframe specified by the employer.
- Knowledge of maintenance management and experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Knowledge of federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations governing water distribution, water quality and drinking water.
