About the role

  • Administer, support, govern and maintain Starburst Enterprise and BI tools (Tableau, Cognos, MicroStrategy) environments.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and manage Starburst, Tableau Server/Tableau Cloud, Cognos Server and MicroStrategy platform installations.
  • Manage system availability, reliability, failover strategies, disaster recovery and backup testing and documentation.
  • Implement and tune resource groups, query limits, optimization rules, cluster tuning and query plan optimization for large scale data sources.
  • Monitor servers, extract refreshes, background tasks, usage statistics and logs to identify performance issues and enhancement opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot user access, query failures, connectivity, metadata issues and platform-specific problems; collect and analyze logs and Java thread dumps from Splunk.
  • Manage user access, authentication (LDAP, SSO), role-based access control, audit logging and compliance with security and data privacy policies.
  • Configure and maintain catalogs for heterogeneous data sources (Hive, Iceberg, Delta Lake, RDBMS) and integrate Starburst with SAS/Tableau.
  • Provide L3/L4 support, lead incident response, root cause analysis and implement remediation to restore services.
  • Forecast platform capacity, plan infrastructure scaling, track and optimize usage costs in cloud or hybrid environments.
  • Automate product installation, cluster provisioning, monitoring and routine operations; integrate platform configuration with CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, runbooks, best practices, configuration recommendations, deployment and security architecture documents.
  • Provide technical/strategic direction, coach lower-level analysts, and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support enterprise analytics across Citi.

Requirements

  • 8+ years IT experience in the areas of Starburst and BI Tools Administration.
  • 5+ years of Linux, Shell scripting experience.
  • Starburst Certified Practitioner certification.
  • Tableau Certified Associate or Server Certified Professional.
  • Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and Kubernetes-based deployments.
  • Experience with Starburst Enterprise, Tableau Server/Tableau Cloud, Cognos, and MicroStrategy administration.
  • Experience configuring and maintaining catalogs for heterogeneous data sources (Hive, Iceberg, Delta Lake, RDBMS).
  • Experience with authentication and access management (LDAP, SSO), RBAC, audit logging, and CyberArk onboarding/maintenance.
  • Experience troubleshooting connectivity, metadata issues, query failures and performance tuning (query plans, resource groups, optimization rules).
  • Experience with monitoring, log collection, Splunk, Java thread dumps, and incident response/RCA.
  • Experience with automation, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, cluster provisioning, and Kubernetes deployments.
  • Strong communication, documentation, cross-functional collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Team player with willingness to share knowledge, cross-train, and learn new technologies.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, make decisions, and problem-solve under pressure.
  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience.
