About the role

  • Organizes, and directs all assigned resources, including people, equipment, and supplies that support the provision of care
  • Assists the Manager to ensure smooth function of the department
  • Maintains excellent working knowledge of all respiratory care policies and procedures and works in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment
  • Provides overall coordination and delivery of illness management and health promotion for patients and families in assigned area(s) e.g., Critical Care ICN, PICU and ED areas, UCC, medical/surgical units, and/or Outpatient Clinics
  • Establishes respiratory processes using scientific principles to provide safe, high quality, comprehensive, and age appropriate respiratory care
  • Provides educational development, student experiential rotations, research, quality improvement and assurance
  • Acts as a liaison with medical staff and all other hospital personnel
  • Communicates effectively and works collaboratively with other Clinical Supervisors as well as the multidisciplinary team
  • Coordinates PTO/vacation with night shift clinical supervisor to ensure consistent leadership presence

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree Required and 3-5 years experience
  • or Bachelor's Degree Preferred and required within 2 years of start date and 3-5 years experience
  • Does not include time spent on clinical rotations as a student.
  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist MO
  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist KS
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Certified Neonatal Pediatric Respiratory Therapist (Employees must obtain Certified Neonatal Pediatric Respiratory Therapist or equivalent within 180 days)
  • RRT Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • PALS, NRP & BLS are required upon hire
  • Seasonal influenza vaccine is a condition of employment
  • New employees must be willing to be vaccinated if found non-immune to MMR and varicella and/or without evidence of Tdap since 2005
  • A personal interview, formal education and training, previous work experience, references and a criminal background investigation are factors used to select candidates
  • A drug screen will be performed upon hire
  • Children’s Mercy is smoke and tobacco free.
